About Dr. Christa Johnson

A life devoted to caring and guiding families through love and loss

Dr. Christa Johnson knew from a young age that she was called to care for animals. She began working in a general veterinary practice at just 16 years old, and by 18 was assisting in an emergency veterinary hospital, where she discovered a deep respect for both the resilience of animals and the strength of the families who love them.

She earned her veterinary degree from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 and began her career in emergency and critical care medicine in Virginia before moving to Maryland in 1998. In 2005, she settled in Caroline County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, where she continues to live in her rural home.

A Career Built on Compassion

For more than 26 years, including 24 years in Annapolis, Dr. Johnson practiced emergency and critical care medicine. In those settings, she walked beside countless families during some of their most difficult moments.

She also served in high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter clinics and volunteered with her local humane society, deepening her commitment to both preventive care and compassionate end-of-life support.

Dr. Johnson has completed advanced euthanasia training through the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy (CAETA), further strengthening her ability to provide peaceful, low-stress in-home pet euthanasia.

A Personal Calling

Throughout her career, especially in emergency medicine, Dr. Johnson has gently guided families through quality-of-life conversations and final goodbyes.

She has also experienced this journey personally. She has had the privilege of helping her own beloved pets pass away quietly at home, in a calm and familiar environment, surrounded by the people who loved them most.

Those experiences shaped her belief that every family deserves the opportunity to say goodbye in peace without fear, urgency, or clinical surroundings.

Life Beyond the Clinic

When she is not caring for patients and families, Dr. Johnson enjoys hiking, biking, long walks with her dogs, and spending time with her family, including her two active young boys.

Her life is rooted in both professional dedication and personal understanding, a balance that allows her to offer steady, compassionate guidance during life’s most tender moments.
